VOL.11
"IN THE MIDST OF CHAOS"

Suddenly the world turned up side down, and something unexpected became our new normal.

The entire world was in lockdown, stores where closed and streets where empty. We started to realise what impact we humans have on earth in our daily life. Suddenly clear water was seen in Venice's canals due to less tourists, motorboats and pollution. Animals in urban areas came to explore emptied streets and the human restrictions due to coronavirus pandemic seemed to have given animals the confidence to go deeper into our cities and stay for longer. Wild mountain goats roamed free in the streets on Llandudno, Wales and lions in Kruger National Park South Africa were lounging on roads that are usually busy with traffic from Safari-goers. Marine life started thriving as turtles had a surging nesting season due to fewer deaths from boating accidents and reduced garbage and other plastics in nesting habitats.
I created a print called sealife, and this abstract painting symbolizes the exploring animals during the pandemic. Wild animals now in their unnatural environment I translated to animals in unnatural shapes or colours. For example, if you look closer you will see a monkey, painted in red with leopard dots. You find a squid with zebra stripes, a green giraffe and mermaids in black and white.
My second print is red and pink in colour, and at first glance you will just see pink florals mixed together. If you look closer you will see the florals creating something beautiful as two faces close together. This print symbolises us humans forced to isolating ourselves and longing to feel our loved once again.
Our lives may have been affected in many ways, but we keep going.
